I. Sơ lược về câu điều kiện loại 1 (Conditional sentence type 1)

Câu điều kiện loại 1 (Conditional sentence type 1) được sử dụng để diễn tả một sự việc, hiện tượng có thể xảy ra trong hiện tại hoặc tương lai.

Câu điều kiện loại 1 cũng thường được sử dụng trong cấu trúc unless, as long as, as soon as hoặc in case thay cho if.

Trong câu điều kiện loại 1 cũng có hai mệnh đề là:

Mệnh đề chính hay còn gọi là mệnh đề kết quả.
Mệnh đề If là mệnh đề phụ/ mệnh đề điều kiện, là điều kiện để mệnh đề chính xảy ra hoặc không xảy ra.

Ví dụ:

If it rains, we will not go for a picnic.
(Nếu trời mưa, chúng ta sẽ không đi picnic nữa.)

⇒ “If it rains” là mệnh đề điều kiện – chia ở thì hiện tại đơn, “we will not go for a picnic” là mệnh đề chính – chia ở thì tương lai đơn.

II. Cấu trúc câu điều kiện loại 1

– Chủ ngữ 1 và chủ ngữ 2 có thể trùng nhau. Bổ ngữ có thể không có, tùy ý nghĩa của câu.

– Mệnh đề If có thể đứng ở trước hoặc sau mệnh đề chính.

– Động từ của mệnh đề If chia ở thì hiện tại đơn, còn động từ trong mệnh đề chính chia ở thì tương lai đơn.

Ví dụ:

If you don’t hurry up, you will miss the interview.
(Nếu bạn không nhanh lên, bạn sẽ nhỡ buổi phỏng vấn đấy.)
If I have more time, I’ll make your birthday cake more beautiful.
(Nếu có nhiều thời gian hơn, tôi sẽ làm chiếc bánh sinh nhật của bạn trông đẹp hơn.)
What will you do if you meet your idol?
(Bạn sẽ làm gì nếu được gặp thần tượng của mình?)

– Trong một số trường hợp, “will” có thể được thay thế bằng các modal verb như “must/ should/ have to/ ought to/ can/ may“.

Ví dụ:

If it rains, you may get wet without an umbrella.
(Nếu trời mưa, không có ô bạn sẽ bị ướt đấy.)
If you finish your homework early, you can play video game.
(Nếu con hoàn thành bài tập về nhà sớm, con có thể chơi game.)

III. Cách dùng câu điều kiện loại 1

– Câu điều kiện loại 1 dùng để chỉ sự việc có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.

Ví dụ:

If you get a high score, I will give you a present.
(Nếu con đạt điểm cao, mẹ sẽ tặng còn một món quà.)
If I have time, I’ll finish that test.
(Nếu tôi có thời gian, tôi sẽ hoàn thành bài kiểm tra đó)

– Câu điều kiện loại 1 có thể được sử dụng để đưa ra lời đề nghị và gợi ý.

Ví dụ:

If you need a ticket, I can get you one.
(Nếu bạn cần mua vé, tôi có thể mua dùm bạn một cái.)
If you miss the train, you can get the next one.
(Nếu bạn bỏ lỡ chuyến tàu, bạn có thể đi chuyến tiếp theo.)

– Câu điều kiện loại 1 có thể được sử dụng để đưa ra lời cảnh báo hoặc đe dọa.

Ví dụ:

If you touch that wire, you may get an electricity shock.
(Nếu bạn chạm vào dây đó, bạn có thể bị điện giật.)
If Tom doesn’t submit English certificate on time, he can’t graduate from university.
(Nếu Tom không nộp chứng chỉ tiếng Anh đúng hạn, anh ấy không thể tốt nghiệp đại học được.)

Một vài lưu ý về cách dùng câu điều kiện loại 1

– Đôi khi có thể sử dụng thì hiện tại đơn trong cả hai mệnh đề. Dùng để diễn tả sự việc này luôn tự động xảy ra theo sau sự việc khác.

Ví dụ:

If David has any money, he spends it.
(Nếu David có đồng nào, anh ấy sẽ tiêu đồng ấy.)
Give this document to Jim if you meet him.
(Đưa tài liệu này cho Jim nếu bạn gặp anh ấy nhé.)

– Có thể sử dụng “will” trong mệnh đề If khi chúng ta đưa ra yêu cầu.

Ví dụ:

If you’ll just wait a moment, I’ll find someone to help you.
= Please wait a moment, I’ll find someone to help you.
(Hãy đợi một lát nhé, tôi sẽ tìm ai đó để giúp bạn.)

IV. Biến thể câu điều kiện loại 1

1. Biến thể mệnh đề If

– Nhấn mạnh tính tiếp diễn của sự việc đang xảy ra

If + thì hiện tại tiếp diễn, S + thì tương lai đơn

Ví dụ:

If you are talking on the phone, I will not disturb you.
(Nếu bạn đang nói chuyện điện thoại thì tôi sẽ không làm phiền bạn nữa)

– Nhấn mạnh sự việc ở mệnh đề If không chắc về thời gian

If + thì hiện tại hoàn thành, S + thì tương lai đơn

Ví dụ:

If you has finished your project, I will check it again.
(Khi nào bạn hoàn thành dự án, tôi sẽ kiểm tra lại nó lần nữa.)

2. Biến thể mệnh đề chính

– Nhấn mạnh trạng thái đang diễn ra/ đang trên đà hoàn thành của kết quả, hoặc tính liên tục của sự việc kết quả.

If + thì hiện tại đơn, S + thì tương lai tiếp diễn / tương lai hoàn thành

Ví dụ:

If we start our campaign today, we will have finished by July.
(Nếu chúng ta bắt đầu chiến dịch hôm nay thì chúng ta sẽ hoàn thành xong trước tháng 7)
If you accept this term, we will be having to sign this contract agreement.
(Nếu bạn chấp nhận điều khoản này, chúng ta sẽ phải ký thỏa thuận hợp đồng này.)

– Trong câu mệnh lệnh.

If + thì hiện tại đơn, (do not) V_{(nguyên mẫu)}…

Ví dụ:

If you are tired, go to bed early.
(Nếu bạn mệt, hãy đi ngủ sớm đi.)
If you don’t tidy up your room, don’t go out!
(Nếu con không dọn phòng thì con không được ra ngoài)

– Trường hợp thể hiện sự cho phép, đồng ý, gợi ý.

If + thì hiện tại đơn, S + may/ can + V_{(nguyên mẫu)}

Ví dụ:

If it’s a nice day this weekend, we may go to the beach.
(Nếu thời tiết cuối tuần này ổn, chúng ta sẽ đi biển.)
If you tidy up your room, you can go out.
(Nếu con dọn phòng xong thì con được đi chơi.)

– Trường hợp thể hiện đề nghị, yêu cầu, khuyên răn mà nhấn mạnh về hành động.

If + thì hiện tại đơn, S + would like to/ should/ must/ have to/ + V_{(nguyên mẫu)}

Ví dụ:

If you don’t feel better, you should see doctor.
(Nếu bạn không cảm thấy khá hơn, bạn nên đi bác sĩ.)
If you want to sit in the first row, you have to buy the ticket online as soon as possible.
(Nếu bạn muốn ngồi hàng đầu, bạn phải mua vé trực tuyến càng sớm càng tốt.)

3. Một số cấu trúc thay thế cho If

– Mệnh đề phủ định: Unless = If … not …

Ví dụ:

Unless I have a quiet room, I won’t be able to do any work.
= If I don’t have a quiet room, I won’t be able to do any work.
(Nếu tôi không có một căn phòng yên tĩnh, tôi sẽ không thể làm bất cứ công việc gì.)

– Cấu trúc: as long as (miễn là), as soon as (ngay khi) or in case (phòng khi).

Ví dụ:

I’ll leave as soon as the babysitter arrives.
(Tôi sẽ rời đi ngay khi người giữ trẻ đến.)
I’ll give you more money in case you need to buy something.
(Tôi sẽ đưa thêm tiền cho bạn phòng khi bạn cần mua thứ gì đó.)
You can go to the party, as long as you finish your homework.
(Con có thể đi dự tiệc, miễn là con hoàn thành bài tập về nhà.)

4. Đảo ngữ câu điều kiện loại 1

Câu điều kiện loại 1 là mẫu câu đơn giản nhất, dùng để diễn tả những điều kiện có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại. Khi chúng ta đảo ngữ câu điều kiện loại 1 như trên, câu sẽ mang trạng thái lịch sự hơn, trang nhã hơn và thường là để đưa ra lời yêu cầu, nhờ vả.

Cấu trúc đảo ngữ câu điều kiện loại 1:

Mệnh đề If		Mệnh đề chính
Should + S + V_{(nguyên mẫu)}		S + will/ can/ may/… + V_{(nguyên mẫu)}

Ví dụ:

If I buy this toy, my kids will destroy it in just one day.
⇒ Should I buy this toy, my kids will destroy it in just one day.
(Tôi có nên mua món đồ chơi này không, con tôi sẽ phá hủy nó chỉ trong một ngày.)
If you see Nick, please tell him to call me or Prince.
⇒ Should you see Nick, please tell him to call me or Prince.
(Nếu bạn thấy Nick thì xin hãy bảo anh ấy gọi cho tôi hoặc Prince nhé!)
